About me...
My name is Melissa Jetton Summerford and I am a librarian.  I graduated from Erwin High School and went to Jacksonville State University where I marched with the Marching Southerners and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Drama.  While there I also performed with the Center Stage Performance Ensemble and helped behind the scenes in several theater productions.  I decided to stay at JSU and completed a Master of Arts degree in English, focusing on language and literature.

Fast forward a decade later, and my need to learn continued to grow.  I found my calling in books and began the MLIS program at The University of Alabama.  I already worked for the local school system, so I decided to concentrate on School Media so I could continue in education and be around the things I love the most: children and books.

I am an avid reader, and enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I love TV and movies and am an amateur photographer.  I have recently started baking and am looking forward to picking up a few new hobbies now that I am finished with graduate school.

I am a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional fraternity for women in music; Sigma Tau Delta, a collegiate English Honor Society; the American Library Association (ALA), the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), the Alabama Library Association (ALLA), the Alabama School Library Association (ASLA), and Phi Kappa Phi, International Honor Society.  I was also the recipient of ALLA's Centennial Scholarship summer of 2015.  Along with my School Media Centers class (LS 532), I presented at the 2016 ASLA conference in Corner, Alabama, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to move from student to professional.  I am thrilled to join the Greenwood family and look forward to sharing the library and the world that reading opens up with our students.
